Hi, my name is

Dillon.

I build software and relationships.

I’m a friendly engineer developing civic and climate software. I believe software engineering is about people first. Strong teams build better software.

About Me

I am a software engineer based in Seattle. Formerly a sustainability specialist at Amazon, I now work independently as a backend engineer in the civic and climate space.

Relationship building is core to all of my work. This means building trust through clear expectations and visibility with clients, setting office hours and leading one-on-ones with my team, and planning 60+ person org events at Amazon.

  • Python
  • AWS
  • Supabase (Postgres)
  • FastAPI
  • TypeScript
  • Next.js

Experience

Technical Lead - Digital Aid Seattle
December 2023 - Present

I volunteer as a tech lead for Digital Aid Seattle, leading the organization’s pioneering venture with Seattle Humane. We are working to improve the systems they use to track incoming animals.

On this team, I:

  • Drive project direction of the full-stack application using Next.js, Vercel, and Supabase.
  • Lead meetings and coordinate a team of volunteer engineers.
Software Engineer Consultant - ISD 197
October 2024 - Present
Building an ETL for immunization data from the Minnesota Department of Health to Infinite Campus. The goal is to reduce the burden of administrative tasks on district staff and make sure that out-of-date information doesn’t prevent kids from going to school.
Software Development Engineer - Amazon
April 2021 - March 2023

I worked on two teams at Amazon. I started on the ordering team, then soon switched to sustainability. That was the start of my career shift towards work in climate tech.

While I was at Amazon, I did the following:

  • Led a documentation restructuring initiative to improve the usability of Amazon’s complex platform, reducing the on-call burden for platform engineers.
  • Designed and developed a Python-based tool for auditing AWS functions that calculate global carbon emissions, supporting Amazon’s sustainability report.
